Melanie Young - Director/Fishing Instructor & Guide

Melanie has been a Sponsored Accuracy Casting Champion, Professional Angler and Fishing Instructor for over 22 years.
She was an Australia accuracy casting champion featured at the Invitational Only Australian Indoor Casting Championships from 1998 till the comps stopped running in 2005.
Melanie was a G.Loomis Pro Staffer from 2000 till 2012 performing also as a Field Tester and providing evaluation reports.
She was awarded the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation Governance for Women Scholarship 2012.
Melanie was invited to be a presenter at the 2012 National Recreational Fishing Conference and was a guest presenter at multiple FRDC Seafood Young Leader conferences.
She represented the Australian Fishing Industry with Malcom Poole at the Ecotourism Global Conference in 2009. She was the Principal Investigator and Author of the published report FRDC Project Understanding the Value of Environmental Accreditation to the Recreational Fishing Community Project No. 2009/321.
Melanie had published articles Australia’s leading print media including Fishing Monthly and more and was a regular Co-Host and Producer on Hi-Tide radio spanning 10 years.
She has extensive formal education and work experience both within the fishing industry and outside of it in Graphic Design, Commerce, Web Development, Marketing, Event Management, B2B Sales and Sales Operations, Quality Management, OHS, Strategic Planning, Media, Merchandising, Brand Product design, creation, supply and distribution and more.
Professional Fishing Instructors & Guides Association
Melanie was Vice President and Secretary of the Professional Fishing Instructors & Guides Association of Australia from 2009 to 2017. Melanie was the first female to have ever been invited to join the executive committee of P.F.I.G.A in in its 20 years of operation. Young Guns were one of the only companies of its kind to be accredited by the Professional Fishing Instructors & Guides Association (P.F.I.G.A) of Australia.
Melanie was the creator of the formal Accreditation offered by the PFIGA during this time that was approved by National Parks NSW
Industry Branded Apparel & Merchandise
Melanie was the owner operator of Roxy Promos and Apparel that delivered a complete merchandising solution to EJ Todd between 2006-2007 for all their brands that was distributed through tackle stores nationally. The highly successful branded apparel G.Loomis range that consisted of 32 items was so successful people still talk about the Cool Dry Fishing Shirts. Along with EJ Todd, Melanie was responsible for branded apparel and promotions campaigns for many other companies within and external to fishing industry. Melanie’s products including options for embroidery, screen printing, pad printing, laser engraving and were available for both small runs and indent.
Family Fishing Show 2014
Melanie was the Director and Event Organiser of the Family Fishing Show held in April in 2014. It was the largest expo exclusively dedicated to all aspects of fishing since 1997. With over 100 exhibitors ranging from Manufacturers, Wholesalers, Retailers, and the country’s highest profile anglers/personalities in the country it was loved by the many that attended. We are still asked when we will be running another.
Angling for a Future - NSW Police Award of Appreciation 2015
Melanie was awarded the NSW Police Award of Appreciation for the creation and delivery of the highly successful Angling for a Future program that saw nearly 50 high risk youth and juvenile offenders complete the 10 week program. The program was focused on introducing participants to all aspects of fishing but also employment pathways accessible to them within the fishing industry and community.
